 UD Lanzarote 4 - 1 UD Fuerteventura

 Monday, December 22, 2008
Lanzarote hosted neighbours, Fuerteventura, on Saturday Morning (20 December) for a local derby that was overshadowed by the serious economic problems that face both teams. It would be the last day for several more UD Lanzarote players who have been forced out because of the club's dire economic situation.

The visitors started off the stronger of the two sides, though Óscar Martín's opening goal (the result of a counter attack) settled the home side's nerves in the 18th minute and the rest of the first half was fairly even. Two goals from Tońito within three minutes in the second half unsettled the visitors and when Jonathan Torres converted a penalty in the 74th minute, the game was effectively over. Both sides saw players sent off in the closing minutes and Memo scored a late consolation goal for Fuerteventura in stoppage time.

The win means that Lanzarote remain in 14th spot with 23 points and an 8 goal cushion from the relegation zone.

UD Lanzarote: Reguero (Abel 93), Ángel Gil, Rubén Rodríguez, Fran, Adrián Martín, Jotha, Vladimir (Vicky 57), Oscar Martín (Niche 78), Maciot, Tońito, Jonathan Torres.

UD Fuerteventura: Nauzet, Soto, Casquero, Marce, Silvano, Richard, Suso (Carlos 79), Nuńez, Memo, Teo (Yaki 69), Isaac (Aday 65).
