La Ola Closure

The popular Puerto del Carmen Bar and Restaurant, La Ola, has been ordered to be sealed and closed by the Canarian Supreme Court. In November 2007, a lower court had ruled that the works had been conducted illegally without a proper license and that the public marine area had been affected by the construction. At the time, the Ayuntamiento de Tias initiated proceedings against the restaurant, but did not enforce them. The Canarian Government also approved the demolition of the building. The Canarian Supreme court strongly condemned the actions of the Ayuntamiento de Tias, accusing them not only of inaction (not fulfilling their legal obligations) but of actually defending an illegal construction.
